Top Flight Streak ARF

Project Notes:

1. Fuel tank that was included was contaminated, sent an email to Top Flight and it was replaced within a week.

2. The included CA hindges are too small and the kit was missing one of the needed four. Purchased repalcements, GreatPlanes GPMQ3950.

3. The control horn that is include is also not very good. Replaced with Du-Bro No. 107 1/2A control horns.

4. If you're new to using CA like me, don't follow the instructions litaraly! Especially the part about how many drops of CA to use on the hindges. They say to use 3 drops per side. This is a big mistake, the CA will soak though the hindge and glue your fingers together before you can get it in placed on the elevator.

Instead, use CA glue bottle tips and then use three or four drops on each side before inseting into the precut slots. Three drop directly from the bottle is way too much! Once the hindges are glued to the elevator, test fit all four on the other half of the elevator, leaving a gap big enough for your CA glue tips. Wick the glue onto the part of the hindge in the gap. The CA will glue the other half nicely this way.

5. Be sure to keep excess epoxy out of the gap around the bellcrank assess door. Other wise you will need to cut away excess glue later.

6. In addition to the usual glue and tools you will need a O.S. Max 25LA, GreatPlane filter GPMQ4150, GreatPlanes fuel line plugs GPMQ4166, fuel line. And I added an air filter to my engine, hate grit in the venturi.

7. After a test flight, a landing gear problem developed causing the plane to turn into the circle breaking props off. Turns out the end of the gear was turning in the balsa fuselage and the cheap foam wheel was folding over.

Replaced the wheel with a better quality pneumatic type. Also had to enlarge the the hole in the fuselage where the end of the gear enters and epoxy in a piece of brass tubing for strength. No more broken props!
